SBF Vision and Team

SBF Chicago is a non profit in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago bringing people together to fight hunger across the Chicagoland area. The organization hosts volunteer events where participants pack sandwiches, snacks, and meal bags that are distributed to local schools and charities serving people experiencing food insecurity. By making volunteering simple and community-focused, SBF Chicago encourages students, families, and groups to give back and make a real impact. Volunteers can join packing events or support donation drives. Getting involved is an easy way to serve the community while working alongside others who want to make a difference.

Rashmi Mehta

As Co-founder and President of SBF Chicago, her passion for food and cooking, along with her background in Business and Marketing, drives her commitment to this organization. With experience in the restaurant industry and food sourcing, she strives to bring communities together to support underserved individuals—especially young children—and create a lasting impact.

Ashna Saxena

Ashna Saxena is a junior at William Fremd High School and the Co-Founder and Vice President of SBF Chicago. Because of her strong passion for community service and leadership, she has been actively volunteering from a young age alongside her family, supporting multiple organizations focused on addressing food insecurity. Her involvement include cooking meals for the women’s shelter at Breakthrough Ministry in Garfield Park, helping prepare and package meals at her local temple for Port Ministries, and organizing food drives for the Palatine Township Food Pantry. These experiences inspired her to take a more active role in addressing hunger on a larger scale. Through SBF, she works to expand initiatives that fight food insecurity both locally and globally. In her spare time, she is a teacher at Eye Level Learning Center.

Aurav Shanmugam

Aurav Shanmugam is a junior at William Fremd High School and the Co-Founder and Treasurer of SBF Chicago. Aurav’s commitment to community service began early through his involvement with Clean Up Give Back in Palatine, where he developed a passion for environmental work and giving back. He has also volunteered at local temples, taking on leadership roles in organizing food drives. After becoming aware of students in his school district who lack access to food on weekends, Aurav recognized a pressing need in his community. Motivated to make a difference, he worked to co-found SBF Chicago to help address food insecurity and create meaningful local impact. He has hands-on experience running his own landscaping business, where he manages operations, leads teams, and makes strategic decisions. In addition, he works part-time at Papa John’s Pizza, further developing his teamwork and communication.
